Protest March
Shoes slap the road
and joined by others, stir
a dust cloud
amber whirlwind
at the city core
a thousand shouts
and banners, breaking
glass, the squeal
and scrape as barriers
give way to pickets, slogans
taunts, transparent
plexiglass militia
shields advance, batons
and fists, then stones, a choke
of gas
then shots, the bodies
down and red, advance again
black thunder arrows split
the blue, the amber
dust gouts up, infolds
in burning coals
subsides.
